Live Your Dream!
Physicians are consistently ranked as one of the top respected professions in the world. As such, it’s no surprise that thousands of people worldwide dream of wearing the white lab coat, strapping a stethoscope around their necks, and becoming healers.
Yet there are many obstacles to living the dream of becoming a practicing doctor, including access to the pre-requisite courses needed for medical school.
Some aspiring doctors have graduated from university without taking all of the sciences, have moved into other careers, yet they still harbor a lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. The flickering flame of hope still burns within them.
Others are high school students, or recent high school graduates, who are dedicated to a career in medicine, humanitarians at heart, but want to take the shortest route possible to living their dream.
Premedical Program Provides Pathway to Your Dream
With the introduction of our new premedical program, your pathway to medicine is now clear! Regardless of why you need the pre-requisite courses for medical school, we can provide them in a timely and efficient manner that gives a clear pathway to your dream.
The newly introduced premedical program at UHSA provides the core courses you need to gain entry to our medical doctor (MD) program while also giving you the science foundation you need to be successful in medical school, internship, residency, and beyond. The program provides the 90-credit hours of undergraduate studies and science courses required by US licensing bodies.
Courses Focused on What Your Need to Succeed
This clear-cut pathway focuses on those key science and humanities courses you need, with a special focus across the curriculum on application to medicine.
For example, the required English reading and writing courses are heavily focused on using topics drawn from the world of medicine and the health sciences, as a means of teaching core skills such as critical reading and writing, presentation skills, teamwork skills, and other key skills needed by future doctors; while our life science courses focus specifically on topics related to human anatomy, physiology, biochemistry by using problem-based learning (PBL).
PBL allows you to learn the basic sciences by applying them to clinical cases, just the way you will in our internationally-recognized MD program.
In fact, students who come to us by way of the premedical program are possibly better prepared because they have learned the UHSA way from day one with clinical case vignettes, PBL, and more. PBL has long been recognized as a superior way of learning the basic and clinical sciences, and is now used by the world’s leading medical universities, including UHSA.
Automatic Promotion to MD Program
Successful graduates of the premedical program will receive an Associates of Science (AS) degree in Premedical Sciences, and will automatically be promoted to the MD program, thus saving valuable time and money on their pathway to success.
By undertaking our accelerated premedical program, you will be able to live your dream faster than by taking traditional premedical courses at a community college or university. For example, a high school graduate who enrolls in our premedical program can complete their MD in just five years! That’s three years sooner than if they attended a traditional premedical program.
Want to Join the UHSA Family?
We would love to have you join the UHSA family! As the second-oldest private medical university in the Caribbean, we know how to make your medical career a success.
